The USS Intrepid served in the Pacific in World War II, surviving several attacks.  It also was the recovery ship for returning spacecrafts of the Mercury and Gemini missions. After years of distinguished service, the ship became a part of the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in 1982.  The museum features aircraft from all service branches, a submarine, the Concorde, and the Space Shuttle Enterprise.

In the early 1980s, New York native Scott Baio was featured in this advertisement for the most original soft drink ever.
