The Space Shuttle Pathfinder, the first shuttle built, sits atop the external fuel tank and solid rocket boosters at the space center.  The rocket propulsion system for the space shuttle was developed at the Marshall Space Center.  A mockup made of wood and steel, the Pathfinder was used to test facilites for handling the vehicle.
