In a special weeklong exclusive, Anna's father David - who has never met a road trip that he didn't like - takes the Dr. Pepper commemorative can of Anna and the rest of us along for the ride to pay tribute to actor Andy Griffith and the 1960s television show that bears his name. First stop is Mount Airy, North Carolina, which is Griffith's hometown, and the inspiration for the story lines, southern ideals, and characters on the show.
Long after the show has ended, Andy Griffith Show fans like David make the pilgrimmage to the small town in the northwestern part of the state. As many as 50,000 attend the annual "Mayberry Days" celebration in September.
