Woodford Reserve is renowned throughout the world as the homeplace of bourbon, its origins dating back to the late 1700s. The distillery, nestled in the picturesque horse farm country outside Lexington, was established by Elijah Pepper (no relation to the namesake doctor of our favorite soft drink) and today is a National Historic Landmark. The distillery has gone by a number of names but it has always been known to produce the finest of Kentucky bourbons. Devotees include Andrew Jackson, Mark Twain, and Walt Whitman. In the modern era, Woodford Reserve has the distinction of being the "official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby."
